Indian wrestler and Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia has faced suspension for refusing to give a dope test. The World Wrestling Federation (WWW), the global governing body of wrestling, has suspended him till the end of this year. Earlier, National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had suspended Bajrang, after which now this decision of UWW has also come to light. NADA had given the decision to suspend Bajrang on April 23, in which he was issued a notice for violating the rules related to place of residence. Even after the suspension of NADA, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had approved Rs 9 lakh as expenses for Bajrang to train abroad, which surprised everyone.

Bajrang said that he had not refused to give dope test

In his statement to PTI regarding suspension of Bajrang Punia by NADA, he said in his defense that he had never refused to give his sample for dope test, but had only asked the dope control officer for the test. Why is the kit brought expired kit? Regarding the suspend order from UWW, Bajrang said that he has not received any information about it. However, Bajrang has confirmed that his lawyer will respond to NADA on this suspension. He said that I am surprised that SAI has approved it. I’ve actually canceled my plans. I am not going anywhere for training now.

Bajrang Punia was about to go for 35 days training

For his wrestling training, Bajrang Punia was initially scheduled to leave on 24th April for 35 days of training but after the MOC meeting, he changed his plan and left on 28th May. India has not got the Olympic quota in the 67 kg weight category in this year’s Paris Olympics. At the same time, Bajrang Punia will not be able to participate in the trials for the Olympics after this suspend order. In such a situation, this is being considered a big blow for India also regarding Paris Olympics.
