Hindus are decreasing in India.

The Economic Advisory Council, which advises the Prime Minister, has released very important figures. According to a working paper released by the Council, India has seen a major decline in the population of Hindus since 1950. At the same time, the graph of population of Muslims has increased rapidly. This trend of decline in majority population has also been seen in Nepal and Myanmar. However, 38 Islamic countries have seen an increase in the population of Muslims. Let us understand these figures in simple language.

Reduction in Hindu population

According to the report of the Economic Advisory Council, the population of Hindus in India has decreased by 7.82 percent between 1950 and 2015. At the same time, during the same period, an increase of 43.15 percent has been recorded in the population of Muslims. If we understand in simple language, according to the census conducted in 1951, Hindus in India were 84.10 percent. However, in 2015 the share of Hindus came down to 77.52 percent. During this period the population of Hindus decreased by 7.82 percent. At the same time, in 1951, Muslims were 9.80 percent in India. This number increased to 14.02 percent in 2015. Between 1951-2015, an increase of 43.15 percent was seen in the Muslim population.

Minorities are flourishing in India

The report of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council shows that minorities in India are safe and flourishing quite well. In India, the population of not only Muslims but also Sikh and Christian religions has increased. According to the report, the Sikh population in the country has increased by 6.58 percent and the Christian population has increased by 5.38 percent. However, the population of people of Parsi and Jain religion has decreased in the country.

The trend is different in Muslim countries

This trend of change in population is slightly different in a Muslim majority country. According to the report released, the share of Muslims has increased in 38 Muslim majority countries. In 1950, Muslims were 77.45 percent in Pakistan. Now Muslims in the neighboring country are 80.36 percent. During this period, Muslims in Bangladesh increased from 74.24 percent to 88.02 percent. The Muslim population in Afghanistan increased from 88.75 percent to 89.01 percent. Muslims in Maldives have declined from 99.83 percent to 98.36 percent, which is a slight decline.

In this report, the population of Buddhists in Myanmar has decreased from 78.53 percent to 70.80 percent, the population of Buddhists in Sri Lanka has increased from 64.28 percent to 67.65 percent and the population of Buddhists in Bhutan has increased from 71.44 percent to 84.07 percent. However, on the other hand, in Nepal, the population of Hindus has decreased from 84.30 percent to 81.26 percent.
