Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday said that he is not the son of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar, hence he did not get political opportunity. NCP leader Ajit Pawar said that after the age of 80, new people should be given a chance. On Sharad Pawar’s statement that there were talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but there were no talks regarding going with him, he said that at least he accepted that the talks took place. Ajit Pawar also said that he is a witness to the conversation.

‘Pawar Saheb should stop after 80 years’

In July last year, Ajit Pawar and 8 other Nationalist Congress Party MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-BJP government in Maharashtra. After this incident, the NCP which was formed by 83-year-old Sharad Pawar was divided. Addressing a rally in Shirur in Pune district, Ajit Pawar said, “I am also above 60. Do we have any chance or not? Are we behaving wrong? That’s why we become emotional. Pawar Saheb is my ‘God’ and there is no doubt about it but every person has his time. After 80 years they should stop and now new people should be given a chance.

He said, “If I was the son of NCP (Sharad Pawar) president Sharad Pawar, would I not have got the opportunity?” Yes, I would definitely have got the opportunity. I didn’t get the opportunity just because I’m not their son. What kind of justice is this?

Baramati of Pune district becomes center of politics

The Deputy CM was campaigning for NCP’s Shirur Lok Sabha seat candidate Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil. Baramati in Pune district is the stronghold of the Pawar family. Ajit Pawar’s wife is contesting from this seat and she is facing competition from Sharad Pawar’s daughter and her sister-in-law Supriya Sule. Voting for Baramati seat took place on 7 May. Pawar said he has worked hard in Pune, bringing the District Cooperative Bank under the control of his party.

While talking to reporters, Ajit Pawar also talked about the statement of senior BJP leader and state cabinet minister Chandrakant Patil (given during the Lok Sabha election campaign in March) in which he had said that he and his party workers Sharad Pawar Want to defeat. Pawar said, “He (Patil) should not have made such comments.” (After that statement) I had told Chandrakant Dada to look after the work of BJP in Pune and he (Ajit Pawar) and his party workers will look after the Baramati Lok Sabha seat. He should not have given such a statement. Don’t know why he said that, but he never said a word afterwards.” (with language inputs)
