Currently, elections for the 18th Lok Sabha are being held in India. The elections started with the first phase of voting on 19 April 2024. After yesterday i.e. 7th May, three phases of voting have been completed and now 4 phases are left. After the final phase of voting on June 1, 2024, the election results will also be revealed on June 4. Today we are going to tell you about a state from where only 3 women have been able to reach the Lok Sabha in the last 72 years.

Only 3 women MPs were elected from this state

The name of the state we are talking about is Himachal Pradesh. Let us tell you that in the last 72 years, only 3 women from Himachal Pradesh have been able to reach the Lok Sabha. Even in this year’s Lok Sabha elections, only 2 women have got tickets whereas there are 4 Lok Sabha seats in the state. BJP has fielded Kangana Ranaut from Mandi seat and BSP has fielded Rekha Rani from Kangra seat. If both these women win the elections, then the number of women MPs reaching Lok Sabha from Himachal will increase to 5.

Who are those three names?

Now you must be curious to know which three women from Himachal Pradesh have won the elections and reached the Lok Sabha. Amrit Kaur first became the first Health Minister of India by winning the election from Mandi seat in the year 1952 from Himachal Pradesh. Amrit Kaur belonged to the Kapurthala royal family. After this, till the year 1984, no woman got a ticket to contest elections. Then in 1984, Congress fielded Chandresh Kumari from Kangra seat and she also won the election. Chandresh Kumari was from the Jodhpur royal family who was married in Himachal.

After these two names, the third name is Pratibha Singh. Former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Pratibha Singh contested the elections in the year 1998 but was not successful. After this, she contested elections again in 2004 and this time she won the elections. Not only this, Pratibha Singh also won the by-elections of 2013 and 2021 from Mandi seat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party had also given ticket to Kamalkanta Banna, mother of Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Banna, from Hamirpur seat but she lost the election.

When are the elections in Himachal Pradesh?

There are 4 Lok Sabha seats in Himachal. There are Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi and Shimla (reserved for Scheduled Caste) seats in the state where elections will be held in the last phase of elections i.e. on June 1, 2024. There are a total of 56 lakh 38 thousand 422 voters in the state. The number of men in this is 28 lakh 79 thousand 200. Whereas the number of women voters is 27 lakh 59 thousand 187 and the number of others is 35.
