The Election Commission on Tuesday directed social media platform ‘X’ to immediately remove an ‘animated’ video shared by BJP Karnataka which is related to the reservation controversy for the Muslim community.
The Election Commission, in a letter to the nodal officer of ‘X’, said that the ‘animated’ video shared by the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on its social media page is in violation of the legal framework. The commission said the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka registered an FIR in this regard and issued an ‘X’ on May 5 to remove the objectionable post as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.
