India may be the youngest country in the world and youth are participating enthusiastically in the general elections of 2024, but our Lok Sabha is getting old. Interestingly, after independence, the Lok Sabha is getting older in every election. The average age of MPs in the 17th Lok Sabha has become 55.5 and with this the current Lok Sabha has become the oldest Lok Sabha. In the first Lok Sabha this age was 46.5. Talking about the second Lok Sabha, the average age of MPs was 46.7. In the third Lok Sabha, the average age of members increased to 49.4. Despite repeated references to the large number of young voters, the 17th Lok Sabha is older than the previous one in terms of age.

The first Lok Sabha (1952) was the second youngest Lok Sabha ever formed. The age of MPs in this Lok Sabha was 46.5 years. At that time there were 93 MPs aged 51 to 55 years. There was only one MP who was over 71 years old. In the 16th Lok Sabha, members below 40 years of age were eight percent, whereas in the 17th Lok Sabha, such members were 12 percent. Let us tell you that elections were held for the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019. A total of 397 MPs had reached the Lok Sabha after winning from national parties. Of these, 52 are Congress members. The average age of members in the current Lok Sabha is 55.5 years.

12th Lok Sabha was the youngest

In the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998, the average age of MPs was recorded as the lowest at 46.4 years. In this way this Lok Sabha remained the youngest. At the same time, 86 year old Lal Krishna Advani was the oldest member in the 16th Lok Sabha.

2.63 crore new voters in 2024

This time the Lok Sabha elections in the country will create a record for the election with the highest voter participation in the world. 66.76 percent of the total population of the country is youth i.e. adult people who vote. The graph of total voters in the country has reached 96.88 crores, which confirms an increase of six percent since the 2019 general elections. 2.63 crore new voters have registered. Of them, 1.41 crore are women voters. Whereas the share of male voters among these is only 1.22 crore.
