Air India Express Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alok Singh on Wednesday said the company will cut flights for the next few days to deal with the unavailability of crew members. Air India Express is a subsidiary of Air India and is a low cost airline. The airline has had to cancel more than 90 flights due to crew members falling ill. Singh said in a message to the airline’s staff that since last evening, more than 100 crew members have reported sick ahead of their scheduled flight duty. This is being said as a deliberate excuse. This is seriously disrupting operations at the last minute.

About 360 flights per day

He said that more than 90 flights have been disrupted due to this situation. Singh said, “This situation is developing across the network. This forced us to cut back on flights for the next few days. We had to take this step to deal with the unavailability of crew members and to fix the flight schedule.” Tata Group-owned Air India Express operates about 360 flights a day under the summer flight program that started in late March.

Airfare may increase

Experts say that during summer holidays, many people go to their homes and outings. During this period the demand for air tickets is very high. In such a situation, the clear impact of reduction in the number of Air India Express aircraft can be seen on air tickets. There is a possibility of a big increase in airfares in the coming days. The sector is already struggling with the SpiceJet and Jet crisis. In such a situation, it will create chaos and trouble in the big aviation companies.
