Jangi siren test in Delhi

Jangi Siren was tested under Civil Defense in Delhi, which was aimed at preparing citizens in an emergency like an airstrike. This exercise was done to increase vigilance after increasing tension between India and Pakistan. The siren test took place at PWD headquarters in ITO, Delhi. This test of Air Red Siren lasted for about 15-20 minutes. This siren can be heard within a radius of 4 kilometers. In other areas of Delhi such as Maharishi Valmiki College of Education (Geeta Colony) and Scope Minar (Laxmi Nagar), sirens were also played during the mock drill on 7 May. During this period, withdrawal, rescue and relief operations were practiced, including agencies such as MCD, PWD, and CATS ambulances.

Mock drill purpose:

  • To train citizens to go to safe places in situations like air strike or war.
  • Blackout and rehearsal of the process of hiding important institutions.
  • Advice to avoid rumors in emergency and rely on government information.
  • On May 7, a large -scale mock drill was organized at 55 places in Delhi, in which the practice of evacuating people was done.

Following the terrorist attack (26 people killed) in Pahalgam, India launched an air strike at 9 terrorist bases in Pakistan on 7 May 2025, which was called ‘Operation Sindoor’. Pakistan confirmed the attack on 6 bases and threatened retaliation, causing India to activate its air defense units. Amid this tension, the Ministry of Home Affairs gave instructions for mock drills in 259 districts across the country, especially border and sensitive areas.

Public reaction and advice

  • People were appealed not to panic by listening to sirens, as it is just practice.
  • It was advisable to remain calm when the siren ringing, going to a safe place, and relying on government information.
