Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

On Tuesday, members of DMK (DMK), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other opposition parties in the Lok Sabha expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s response to the MNREGA issue and created a huge uproar. On this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed unhappiness and said that members should not bring the political agenda of the states in the House. Due to the disruption by opposition members, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 12 noon for about 15 minutes.

Opposition questions in the Question Hour

During the Question Hour, members of Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu asked supplementary questions related to the outstanding money of MNREGA. The answers of Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrashekhar Pemmasani were dissatisfied with the members of the opposition parties and came to the posture and started shouting slogans.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan told in the House that an amount of Rs 85 thousand crore has been released under MNREGA for Tamil Nadu and the remaining amount will also be released soon. In addition, Rs 54,515 crore for West Bengal was released under MNREGA. He also said that the outstanding money will be released when compliance is completed.

Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrashekhar Pemmasani said that misuse of money under MNREGA in West Bengal was detected and money would not be released until irregularities are over. He also said that in the last five years, wages under MNREGA have increased by 43 percent.

Lok Sabha Speaker’s intervention

Amid the slogans and uproar by the members of the opposition parties, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that bringing the political agenda of the states during the Question Hour is against the dignity of the House. He appealed to the opposition members to go to their place and let the Question Hour run smoothly. The speaker also said that everyone has the right to ask questions in the House, but it is not appropriate to bring political agendas and disrupt the proceedings of the House.

Adjournment

Due to the ruckus and noise, the Lok Sabha Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House for about 15 minutes and stopped it till 12 noon. (input language)
