New Zealand has given a chance to 2 new faces in its team. Muhammad Abbas and Nick Kelly have been included in the New Zealand team for the first three -match ODI series against Pakistan. Kelly will probably open with Will Young in the absence of Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway. Both Rachin and Devon are part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team in IPL 2025.
Former Pakistani fast bowler’s son gets a chance
Talking about Abbas, 21-year-old Abbas is one of the most talented all-format batsmen in New Zealand’s domestic cricket. Abbas is the son of former Pakistani fast bowler Azhar Abbas Haraj, who has also played for Wellington and Auckland after his family moved to New Zealand. Abbas Senior is currently an assistant coach from Wellington.
Ken Williamson described himself as unavailable, after which he was not selected for selection. Fast bowler Kyle Jameson will not be part of the Kiwi team in the ODI series against Pakistan. The selectors have taken this decision in view of the workload of Kyle Jamison. At the same time, fast bowler Matt Henry is going through rehabilitation due to shoulder and knee injury, so they too will be out of the team.
Aditya Ashok returns to the team
Will O’Rurke, who returned to the T20 team for the last two matches, will continue to lead the seam attack in ODIs in the absence of senior players. Ben Sears, Jacob Dafi and Nathan Smith will also be part of the seam attack while Auckland leg -spinner Aditya Ashok has been called back to the team who last played for New Zealand in December 2023.
