Duleep Trophy
The Top Council of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has taken a big decision regarding the Dalip Trophy tournament. Now the Dalip Trophy will again be played under the traditional inter-zonal format, with six teams in the first class level tournament. The National Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, had selected four teams A, B, C and D based on the performance of the players in the Ranji Trophy (38 team) last year, which played the tournament in the Challenger Trophy format.
Now the Dalip Trophy will be played between six teams
Now the North, South, East, West, Central and North-East region will compete for the Dalip Trophy title instead of the format of four teams. The Duleep Trophy was played as the Inter State First Class Tournament from 1961-62 to 2014-15. Former captain Rahul Dravid took over as the head of the NCA in 2015, then he suggested to get the Dalip Trophy done in the Challenger Trophy format, where national selectors used to select India Blue, Red, Green teams. The format was continued till the 2019 season. The Dalip Trophy was then not held in 2020 and 2021 seasons due to Kovid epidemic.
According to a report by a cricbing, some State Association was not happy with four teams formats, which were selected by national selectors. However, many star players participated in this tournament played last year. There were many players who returned to domestic cricket after a long time through this tournament.
Now more players hope to get a chance
It is now believed that the board has returned to the old format to keep an eye on more and more players and give the players of all state teams more a chance to prove themselves. This means that every region will once again have its own selection committee. In such a situation, it will now be interesting to see whether the National Selectors of all five areas (except North Zone) are made a permanent invited member of their zonal selection committee. Let us tell you that the North Zone does not have any national selector.
