Puducherry: In Puducherry, the CBI on Sunday arrested three accused, including two engineers working in the Public Works Department of Puducherry Government (PWD), on charges of bribery. Those arrested include Chief Engineer of PWD Department and Executive Engineer and a private contractor of PWD. He was arrested soon after exchange of a bribe amount of two lakh rupees. According to the report, when the CBI searched their locations, about Rs 73 lakh cash was recovered.
Senior GM of Power Grid arrested
In the last few days, the CBI has arrested several officials of various departments in corruption cases. On March 22, the investigating agency arrested a forest guard for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. On 20 March, CBI arrested Uday Kumar, senior GM of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, for taking a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from a Mumbai -based company KEC International officer.
Uday Kumar’s posting was in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The bribe was allegedly being given in lieu of passing the agreement with KEC International and Power Grid Corporation and the bill related to it. DGM Suman Singh of KEC International Company was also arrested by the CBI.
ASI Assistant and Contractual Employees arrested on 19 March
On March 19, two people, including the Protection Assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and a contract worker in Nashik, were arrested in a case of corruption. The arrested accused have been identified as Deepak Chaudhary, Conservation Assistant of Archaeological Survey of India and Prakash Kakaliz, a contract employee working at the MTS of the ASI Pandavaleni office in Nashik.
Indian Railway Personnel Service Officer arrested
Earlier this month, the CBI arrested five railway officials, including two officers of the Indian Railway Personnel Service posted in the Vadodara Division, on charges of alleged bribery to favor the candidates in the departmental examination. A CBI spokesman said that CBI also seized 650 grams of gold and Rs 5 lakh cash during his search at 11 places including Vadodara in Gujarat.
