Accused panchayat officer arrested.

Kalahandi: A case of embezzlement of crores of rupees has been reported in the name of online gaming in Kalahandi district of Odisha. These rupees were also embezzled by embezzlement from the government fund. A suspended Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) has been arrested by the State Vigilance Department on charges of embezzling government money worth more than three crore rupees for cricket betting and online gaming. An official gave information about the incident. Investigation also revealed that the Panchayat Executive Officer had misused his officer and took out this amount. For this, he also made fake signatures of sarpanches of panchayats.

Embezzlement of Rs 3.26 crore

The official said that the arrested PEO has been identified as Danandand Sagar. He informed that Debanand Sagar is accused of embezzling government funds worth Rs 3.26 crore from Talnegi Gram Panchayat and Podapadar Gram Panchayat under Thumal-Rampur block of Kalahandi district. According to the official, Sagar is accused of misusing its rights and making a fake signature of the sarpanch of panchayats. He said that Sagar had allegedly sent the embezzlement amount to his private bank account. At present, the accused PEO has been arrested.

Embezzlement in two panchayats

According to the information, Debanand Sagar embezzled Rs 1.71 crore from the Gram Panchayat and Rs 1.55 crore from Podapadar Gram Panchayat. He misused the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) by fake signature of the sarpanches. Apart from this, he transferred money from the accounts of the 15th Central Finance Commission (CFC) and the 5th State Finance Commission to his private account of SBI Dharamgarh Bazar branch. On 4 July 2016, accused Landand Sagar started his government service in the form of PEO in the frying Gram Panchayat. Later, from 5 May 2018 to 17 March 2022, he remained in charge of Podapadar Gram Panchayat. During this time, he embraced government money. (Input-PTI)
