Indian Premier League 2025
While the 18th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL will begin from March 22, on March 20, in Mumbai, the BCCI held a meeting with all the captains in which they gave information about the rules to be implemented this season. This time, where some new rules have been implemented in the IPL, it was decided to continue some rules. If we look at these rules, including the rules of international cricket, then some rules are completely different, in which the removal of the ban from saliva is considered to be the biggest step. In such a situation, we are going to tell you about the rules which are completely different from the ICC.
1 – Impact Player Rules
In the IPL 2023 season, the Impact Player Rule was implemented, in which teams were allowed to make a change between their playing 11, in which they could make another player a part of the team. Under this rule, the captain has to announce his playing 11 at the time of the toss and also gives the names of 5 more players, out of which he will make a part of the playing 11 through the impact player. So far, the ICC has not implemented this rule in international cricket.
2 – Demerit points will be added to the captain’s account if the over rate rule is violated
In the IPL, where the captain had to face a match ban due to violation of the over rate rule, now it has been given some relief to him from the upcoming season, which will now add demerit points to the captain’s account at a slow over speed, which will reduce the risk of match ban for him. At the same time, after joining every four point account, the captain’s match fee can also be fined 25 to 75 percent and these points will be added to their account for the next three years.
3 – Second new ball to reduce the impact of Dew in second innings
DU is one of the most important issues in T20 or ODI cricket, in which it is very difficult for the captain who win the toss to bowl or bat first. In order to reduce its impact in the IPL 2025 season, the rule of using the second new ball after 11 overs has been brought during the second innings. However, the decision to change the ball will be with the Field Umpire. At the same time, if I look at the Rule Book of ICC, then this rule has not been implemented in it.
4 – Rule of taking review for Wide
In international cricket, it has often been seen that the umpire’s decision to give wide or not has shown its effect on the match. At the same time, the teams also got the exemption to challenge these decisions of the umpire in the IPL in the year 2023, in which they can use DRS against the umpire’s decision to give wide, after which the third umpire will check it and give the right decision.
5 – The ban on saliva on ball was lifted
In IPL 2025, the largest rule that has been changed is a decision to lift the ban on the offer of saliva on the ball. This will benefit the most fast bowlers. The ICC had banned the ball on the ball due to the Kovid-19 epidemic, which was also implemented in the IPL, while the ICC later made the rule permanent. At the same time, it has been decided to remove this ban from IPL 2025.
6 – Timeout 2 times in an inning
In international T20 cricket, during an inning, where the drink is taken only once, there is a rule to take a time out 2 times during an inning in the IPL, which gets a break of up to two and a half minutes and during this time the teams decide their further strategy in the match.
