18 BJP MLAs have been suspended from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Assembly Speaker UT Khadar on Friday suspended 18 BJP MLAs for 6 months from the Assembly to create a ruckus on the issue of ‘Honey Trap’ cases and disrupt the House proceedings.
Demand to investigate the Honey Trap case from the High Court judge
Opposition leaders had demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged ‘honey-trap’ case related to a minister and other politicians from the current judge of the High Court. On Friday, BJP MLAs came in front of the wel of the House and created a ruckus by tearing the paper.
Minister HK Patil introduced the bill
At the same time, a bill has been passed to suspend 18 BJP MLAs for six months to obstruct the proceedings of the assembly today. The bill was introduced by HK Patil, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs of Karnataka.
What is the ‘Honey Trap’ case of Karnataka?
A high-profile honey trap case has recently come into the limelight in Karnataka, which has shook the politics of the state. The matter came to light when Karnataka Cooperative Minister K.N. Rajanna revealed in the assembly that not only did he herself avoid being a victim of honey trap, but also 48 other leaders of the state, MLAs and even central leaders getting caught in such a trap. The claim has confused both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in a major controversy.
BJP MLA raised the case in the house
On 20 March 2025, during the budget session in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, BJP MLA Basangauda Patil Yatnal first raised the issue. He alleged that the incidents of honey trap are increasing in the state. In response, Rajanna admitted that Honey Trap was tried against him and this problem is not limited to him only. He said, ‘Karnataka Pen Drive and CD have become a factory. I have information that 48 people, including MLAs, central leaders and even judges, are caught in this trap.
Attempted to trap in honey trap- Minister Jarkiholi
After this, the state’s Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi also acknowledged the seriousness of the case. He said, ‘It is true that there was an attempt to trap a minister in a honey trap. This happened twice. However, both times this effort failed. Honey Trap is not new in Karnataka, it has been going on for the last 20 years. Some people are using it as investment in politics. Jarkiholi also suggested that the concerned minister should lodge a complaint with the police so that the people behind it can be traced.
