Born on May 3, 1920 in Peshawar, Pakistan, Achala Sachdev Acharya was from a Punjabi family. At a very young age, he started working to help his family financially. He worked as a radio announcer in All India Radio (AIR) Lahore. After the partition, his family moved from Peshawar to Delhi and he resumed his work in Air Delhi. At that time, he interviewed many film personalities and also appeared in cameo roles in films. She acted in more than 250 films and ruled the industry for 6 decades. Not only in Hindi cinema but also in three Punjabi and one Gujarati films.

Tanha remained even after two weddings

In 1950, he got a chance to play the role of Dev Anand’s sister in the film ‘Dilruba’, who got a tremendous name-fame and after that he also offered several big budget films. Later, she appeared in films like ‘Sangam’, ‘Partapath’, ‘Dil Ek Mandir’ and ‘Miss Mary’. Achla Sachhedav made her debut in the 1938 film ‘Fashionable Wife’. It was directed by Dhirubhai Desai. Achla Sachdev married twice. First husband got married to Gyan Sachdev and later to Clifford Douglas Peters.
