Cairo: Hamas said on Saturday that he would release an American-Israeli hostage only when the Israel would implement the ceasefire agreement. Talks continue in Egypt
The US said it has proposed to extend the ceasefire a few more weeks on Wednesday, as both sides are talking for a permanent ceasefire. Talks continued in Egypt after senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya reached Cairo on Friday. Egypt and Qatar worked as a major intermediary with Hamas in reaching the ceasefire. Israel and Hamas had to start negotiations for the second phase under the ceasefire agreement in January. After the first phase ended at the beginning of this month, Israel said that it had agreed to a new US proposal, under which Hamas would release half of the remaining hostages in return for the commitment to negotiate permanent ceasefire.
