Telecom companies expressed displeasure over TRAI’s new rules.
Trai new rules: As the access of smartphones and internet is increasing, the number of spam calls and messages has also increased rapidly. New rules were implemented by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) a few months ago to stop spam calls and messages. However, now protests have been expressed by telecom companies regarding new rules.
Let us tell you that according to the new rule of TRAI, there is a provision to impose penalty if you fail to stop spam. Now telecom companies have opposed it. Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), an organization of telecom companies, said that a detailed attitude to deal with this problem was needed. Penalty on companies is not an effective solution.
Penalty on spam calls
It was said on behalf of COAI that if really a penalty is to be imposed, instead of putting on companies, spam messages and spam calls should be placed against those. The Director General of COAI said that it is quite disappointing that the new rules of TRAI to prevent spam were issued without solving all problems issues.
Let us tell you that under the new TRAI rules, a penalty will be imposed on telecom companies giving wrong reports of spam calls and messages. Not only this, it has also been made mandatory for TRAI to make calls and SMS analysis based on a large number of calls for telecom companies, short duration of calls and low ratios of outgoing calls from incoming calls. According to TRAI, such a step will make it very easy to identify spammers.
Up to 10 lakh penalty for violation
Let us know that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has implemented the rule of graded penalty by making some necessary amendments to the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR). According to this, if telecom companies tell the wrong number in the report on spam calls and messages, then this penalty will be installed.
A penalty of two lakhs will be imposed on the first violation of the companies, while on the second violation, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the kinians. After this, a penalty of 10 lakhs will have to be given on every violation. COAI said that the new rules issued by TRAI do not include social media apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. However, these apps also have a glut of spam messages and calls.
