The new excise policy in Madhya Pradesh will be applicable from April 1. An official said that under the new excise policy issued on Sunday, “Low alcoholic beverage bar” will open for the first time in Madhya Pradesh, while liquor sales will stop at 19 places including 17 holy cities. These new bars will only allow drinking beverages containing beer, wine and ready-to-drink alcohol, with a maximum of 10 percent V/V (volume on volume) alcohol.

The government release states that the intake of spirit in such a bar will be completely banned. Currently, there are 460 to 470 liquor-cum-bilies in the whole of Madhya Pradesh. An excise department official said that the total number of bar with these new outlets will increase rapidly.

47 shops will be closed

The government statement said that from April 1, a total of 47 mixed liquor shops will be closed under the ban on selling liquor at 19 places including 17 holy cities. A mixed shop consists of an Indian -made foreign liquor and a native liquor shop. Some holy cities where the ban on the sale of liquor will be applicable include Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Amarkantak and Salakanpur. On January 23, CM Mohan Yadav announced a ban on the sale of liquor after approving the new excise policy. With this step, the state government will suffer a loss of about Rs 450 crore in excise revenue.

Will be able to buy alcohol by buying from another city

Officials said that no fine will be imposed in areas where liquor sales are being stopped and drinking it personally, as liquor ban law is not applicable in Madhya Pradesh. In places where shops are going to be closed, there is a need to enact a law like Bihar Prohibition Act, 2016 in Madhya Pradesh to take liquor and ban drinking. Officials said that apart from Bihar, there is a prohibition law in Gujarat, while only the Excise Act is applicable in Madhya Pradesh. “From completely legal terms, it restricts the places of alcohol and drinking alcohol etc.,” an official said. There is no personal restriction. People can keep alcohol and consume it personally. , Not collectively. ”

20 percent increase in fees

The government statement said that the renewal fee of liquor shops has been increased by 20 percent under the new excise policy for the next financial year. However, the heritage liquor and wine production policy will remain unchanged. Heritage liquor manufacturers will continue to exempt from the value -added tax (VAT). Under the state’s grape processing policy, the processing of fruits and horticulture will be promoted to increase the income of farmers. Apart from grapes and berries, wine production from other fruits and honey produced in Madhya Pradesh will be allowed. Wine production units in the state will be allowed to operate retail shops in their premises. Wine taarn (wine tasting facility) will be allowed for tourists in the winery complex.

Units making foreign liquor bottles will be allowed to make special liquor, storage, export, import and sell from the next financial year. According to an estimate, 3,600 mixed liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh will bring an estimated revenue of about Rs 15,200 crore in this financial year.
