Earthquake in Delhi NCR
On Monday morning, there were strong earthquake tremors in Delhi NCR. The earthquake was so strong that people woke up and came out of the houses. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Delhi NCR and was just five kilometers inside the ground. For this reason, the earthquake was felt in Delhi. According to the National Earthquake Science Center, earthquake tremors were felt in New Delhi at 5.36 am. The intensity of the earthquake on the Richter scale was 4.0. The center of the earthquake was Delhi. Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi NCR as well as some areas of Haryana and Punjab. Earthquake was also felt in Chandigarh.
A passenger waiting for his train at New Delhi railway station said, “The earthquake was for a short time, but the intensity was very high. It seemed as if a train had come at a very fast speed.” Another passenger said, “We felt as if a train was running under the ground. Everything was moving.” A shopkeeper said near Delhi railway station, “Everything was shaking. The customers shouted.”
Shallow earthquakes are dangerous
Such earthquakes are usually more dangerous than deep earthquakes. This is because shallow earthquakes release more energy close to the surface, causing more intense vibration and damage. This has happened this time in Delhi. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Nagloi, Delhi and was just five kilometers below the surface. For this reason, shocks felt for a short time, but the intensity of shocks was very high. People lost their sleep and people came out of their homes in panic.
Why do earthquakes come?
Earthquake incidents have increased in recent times all over the world including India. Actually, there are 7 tectonic plates within our earth. These plates continue to roam in their place. However, these plates several times collide on the fault line, causing friction. The energy from this friction finds a way to get out. This is why earthquake incidents are seen on earth.
