TRAI’s new rule
TRAI has made the rule more strict to curb fake calls. The telecom regulator has said to impose a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh on marketing fake calls. Also, the new DND i.e. do-not-distorb app has also been launched, so that mobile users can set marketing calls according to their freshness. The telecom regulator has released new guidelines of Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation (TCCCPR). In this, a provision has been made for a fine ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for fake calls and messages. Those who violate the rules repeatedly may have to pay a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.
Fines up to 10 lakhs
The first violation for financial fake calls will be fined Rs 2 lakh, Rs 5 lakh on second violation and Rs 10 lakh for repeated violations. The fine will be imposed on uncertain Communication Communication (UCC) i.e. unwanted commercial communication. Apart from this, the telecom regulator has released a new update of the DND app, in which the facility will also be available to file a complaint from blocking fake messages and to track the action taken on the complaint.
What is the new rule?
TRAI has shared the details of this new guidelines with its official X handle. The rules of new guidelines will apply only to calls or messages to be made on the mobile number. At the same time, this new rule will not apply to WhatsApp like OTT apps. However, the regulator has also made it mandatory to analyze the parameters of telecom companies Airtel, Jio, VI and BSNL. In which high call volumes, SMS patterns, short call durations, repeated SIM cards, etc. on the number of users have been asked to monitor in real time.
Increased limit of complaint
The telecom regulator has increased the time-seam from 3 days to 7 days to complain of fake calls and messages coming to its number to customers. Apart from this, the time limit of taking action on any complaint has been reduced from 30 days to 5 days. Millions of mobile users will benefit from this new change. Action can be taken on their complaint as soon as possible. After the implementation of this rule, telemarketers without registered will not be able to call users.
Identification of commercial message
Under the new rule, mobile users will be able to easily identify any commercial messages. The headers of registered telemarketers will end with ‘-P’, ‘-S’, ‘-T’ and ‘-G’. These will be for identification of promotional, service, transactions and government messages. Apart from these headers, all the messages coming will be considered fake.
New number series
Those who violate TRAI’s new guidelines for the first time will be blocked for 15 days. At the same time, there is a provision to blacklist the repeated mistakes repeatedly. The new rule will take action against those who send telemarketing calls or messages from 10 digit mobile numbers and will be considered a violation of the rule. TRAI has released a new number series for promotional calls, which will now start from 1600. Earlier these calls were made from the 140 series.
