The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday clarified that strict provisions have been made to maintain the confidentiality of information in the recently implemented Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state and no information recorded in it will reach a third person. Additional Secretary Nivedita Kukreti in the State Home Department said that no third person will be able to reach the information given at the time of registration of services in UCC. He said that only the number of registration under UCC will be able to be public, it will not include personal information of anyone.
Confidentiality will be given top priority
Kukreti said that the confidentiality of information in the UCC has been given the highest priority and personal information for any service like name, address, mobile number, Aadhaar number, religion, caste etc. will not be public at any level. . Kukreti said that the person who has applied for a service under UCC, only that person can only ask for information related to his application through a joint application with himself or another person, but any other person and any person Information will not reach.
Information is misused and action will be taken against the accused
According to him, the information about the registration under UCC will also be sent to the police station only for records and till the details given in any such registration, the reach of the police station in -charge will also be reached under the supervision of the senior Superintendent of Police concerned. He said that if information is misused at any level, action will be taken against the person concerned as per rules. UCC was implemented in Uttarakhand on 27 January and is the first state in independent India to do so. Registration of ‘live-in’ relations has been made mandatory in UCC as well as marriage, divorce and succession. Doubt has been expressed by some legal experts that this would violate people’s right to privacy.
