Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee.
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress leaders said on Tuesday that the Congress has no basis in West Bengal, so their party will not try to strengthen the opposition coalition ‘India’ by ignoring its interests. A party MP even taunted the Congress and even said that ‘the rope was burnt, but did not force.’ These statements of TMC leaders have come at a time when party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced to contest the 2026 state assembly elections alone.
‘Will maintain its power in Bengal with two-thirds majority’
Mamta denied the possibility of an alliance with the Congress in the 2026 assembly elections, saying that the Trinamool would contest the elections alone and retain its power in the state by winning a two-thirds majority. He told party MLAs and MPs at a meeting in Kolkata on Monday that TMC will contest the West Bengal assembly elections to be held in 2026 on its own. Mamta expressed confidence that her party would get a two-thirds majority in the 2026 assembly elections.
‘Congress has no right to stay in India’
When asked about Mamta’s decision, Kirti Azad, MP from Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, lashed out at the Congress and said, “The rope was burnt, but did not force.” Azad attacked the Congress, holding him responsible for the AAP defeat in Delhi and accused him of stabbing his colleagues. He said that Congress has no right to remain in India. Azad said, “The biggest problem of the Congress is that it has no basis.”
‘Congress is stabbing in the back of coalition partners’
The TMC MP said, ‘If the Congress had fight with’ AAP ‘in Delhi, both could form the government. But both of them contesting different elections had an impact on 14 seats and the Aam Aadmi Party lost. The Congress is a sinking boat, it is unable to understand that when the BJP was nothing, it used to form a government in the states with others. It is a different matter that he stabbed him in his back. However, the Congress is already drowning, yet it is stabbing its coalition partners.
‘TMC is very strong to fight BJP alone’
Kirti Azad said, “There is a lot of arrogance in the Congress and the way it is treating her coalition partners, she has no right to remain in alliance. ‘ Lok Sabha member Saugat Roy said that TMC cannot strengthen the alliance by ignoring its interests. He said, ‘Mamta is the supremo of our party, what she says is the idea of the party. He has also proved earlier that TMC is very strong to fight BJP alone. We have won 29 seats out of 42 Lok Sabha and next time we will improve this figure further. We cannot strengthen the opposition alliance at the cost of our interests.
