Free Wi-Fi can have a big scam with you. Recently, the UGC i.e. University Grants Commission has advised students not to login from Public Wi-Fi to personal or professional account. The UGC has warned the students that people can be a victim of scam or fraud due to its use. If you also use free i.e. public Wi-Fi, then you need to take great care. Even a small carelessness can get you a big fraud.
What is Public Wi-Fi?
Generally, free Wi-Fi facility is available in public places like bus stops, railways, airports, cafes, restaurants and public library. Users can use internet in these places without any active data plan in their mobiles, laptops, tablets etc. Such a Wi-Fi service is called Public Wi-Fi. An ordinary password is required to connect to a free Wi-Fi network. In many places, public Wi-Fi is placed on the open network, due to which anyone will be able to run the internet in their devices.
Free Wi-Fi is dangerous
As it is clear from the name that anyone can connect their device through public Wi-Fi. In such a situation, it is a left-handed game for hackers to break into these free Wi-Fi. They can easily send to the virus or malware connected devices by entering free Wi-Fi service. This is why there is a risk of data theft and hacking in public Wi-Fi.
Due to the free services of public Wi-Fi, its security updates are not noticed, due to which hackers get an opportunity for entry into the devices of connected users. Do not access their e-mail, banking etc. services to those using internet through public Wi-Fi in free Wi-Fi.
What not to do?
As it is clear from the name that such a free Wi-Fi service is for public. In such a situation, do not connect your phone or laptop until it is very important. If you are using public Wi-Fi, do not open any digital payment or social media apps.
