Electronics The company continues to have fresh deadlock between a class of employees and management at Samsung’s Chennai factory. CITU (Center of Indian Trade Unions) officials leading the strike have said that CITU is planning to intensify protests. Employees of Samsung India Workers Union have been on strike from February 5 demanding the restoration of their three colleagues, which were suspended by the management. A Samsung India spokesperson said that Samsung does not support any illegal action by employees that disturb the industrial peace at the workplace.
Strike inside the factory from 5 February
On Saturday evening, CITU officials demonstrated under the leadership of their secretary E. Muthu Kumar and supporters in Sunguvarchantram, about two kilometers from the factory in Sriperumbdur district. The union has demanded that suspended employees, who are CITU officials, be restored. He warned that if his suspension is not withdrawn immediately, he would intensify the protests. Leading the movement, Kumar said that Samsung India employees have been staging a sit -in inside the factory since February 5, while the CITU has been demonstrating to express his solidarity to the striking employees with its supporters.
Warned to intensify protest
In the presence of policemen, about 50 CITU supporters raised slogans against Samsung India and the district administration, alleging no steps to resolve the issue during the protest. Kumar said that the strike of the employees would continue and he warned of intensifying it by seeking support from other labor unions of Tamil Nadu. Earlier, Samsung India employees had been on strike for more than 30 days on various demands including salary amendment in 2024. It was later withdrawn after the intervention of the Tamil Nadu government.
