Demand to change the name of West Bengal.

New Delhi: The issue of changing the name of West Bengal once again in Parliament is echoed. Here TMC has demanded to change the name of West Bengal to ‘Bangla’. The TMC MP said that this name reflects the history and culture of the state. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, MP Ritabrat Banerjee said that the West Bengal Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed a proposal to change the name of the state. The Center has not yet approved it.

Mamta Banerjee wrote a letter to PM Modi

He said that CM Mamta Banerjee also wrote a letter to PM Modi and said that naming matches the history, culture and identity of the state and also reflects the aspirations of the people here. In the year 1947, Bengal was divided. The Indian part was called West Bengal and the second part was named East Pakistan. In 1971, East Pakistan announced independence and became a new nation in Bangladesh. Banerjee said that there is no East Pakistan today.

Names instead of many cities

MP Ritabrat Banerjee said, “There is a need to change the name of our state. The mandate of the people of West Bengal needs to be respected. The name of a state was last changed in 2011, when Orissa was renamed to Odisha. ”He said that the names of many cities have been changed over the years. These include Bombay, which was converted to Mumbai in 1995, in 1996 Madras was converted from Chennai, Calcutta in 2001 to Kolkata and Bangalore to Bengaluru in 2014.

Demand to give national fair status to Gangasagar fair

Apart from this, TMC’s Mamta Thakur underlined the mythological significance of Gangasagar fair and raised the demand for the status of National Fair. He said that so far more than one crore people have taken a dip there and this number is constantly increasing. He said that without any central help, the state government is providing all the facilities to the pilgrims. (Input-PTI)
