Know the important things before voting

There is now only a few hours left for the Delhi assembly elections. Voting to select members of the 70 -member assembly will start from 7 am on February 5, which will run till 5 pm and the results will be announced on January 8. This time the election is expected to take place between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. The Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal had dominated Delhi in the last two assembly elections in 2015 and 2020. Prior to the common man, the Congress captured Delhi’s power for 15 years.

There are 1.56 crore registered voters in Delhi, for which 13,766 polling stations have been set up. Out of the total voters, 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women and 1,267 are third gender voters.

Before going to vote on February 5, you should keep these things in mind —-

Register your name: Make sure your name is in the voter list. You can complete your registration through the Election Commission website of the Election Commission of India.

Verify your name: Check on Google Electoral search or using the voter helpline app available on Android and iOS whether your name is in the voter list.

Find the polling station: Use the Election Commission tool to find the exact polling station assigned to you.

Take your ID: Bring your voter ID card (EPIC) or other required ID documents set by the Election Commission.

Czech-in and Verification: A polling officer will verify your name in the voter list and seek your ID proof. Once your identity is confirmed, ink will be put on your left index finger to prevent double voting.

Get voter slip: You will be given a voter slip, which you have to sign in the register.

Voting: You will go to the electronic voting machine (EVM) and press the button in front of the election symbol of your choice of your choice in the booth. A beep will confirm your selection and a red light will shine in front of the candidate’s name.

VVPAT investigation: After voting, the voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will show you the name, serial number and symbol for seven seconds.

How to download your voter slip online
Go to the website of Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi.
‘Search your name in the voter list.
Enter your details and click on the search.
If your name appears, click on ‘View Details’.
Download your voter slip or take out a print out.
You can also use the voter helpline app by linking your mobile number to your EPIC number with your voter ID.

ID verification

At the polling station, you can give one of the following IDs for verification:

Voter ID card (EPIC)
Aadhar card
Passport
Driving license
Ration card
Photo -with bank passbook
PAN card
Government service photo identity card
To avoid any problem during verification, make sure that your ID is original and valid.
