Joint parliamentary committee
JPC will submit its report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 on Monday (February 3) in the budget session of Parliament. Opposition MPs have expressed disagreement over the report of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by Jagdambika Pal. According to the agenda, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jagdambika Pal, along with Sanjay Jaiswal, will present the records of the reports (Hindi and English editions) and the evidence given before the committee, on the basis of which the committee has reached this conclusion.
Jagdambika Pal met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday to submit the final report of the committee on the bill. He said on Wednesday, “We have adopted the report and the revised revised bill. For the first time we have included a section stating that the benefits of Waqf should be given to the marginalized people, poor, women and orphans. Tomorrow we Will present the report before the speaker. ” Pal said, “We had 44 sections before us, out of which amendments were proposed by members in 14 sections. We voted by a majority and then these amendments were accepted.”
Owaisi said- remove the parts of my disagreement note
JPC accepted the draft report and the revised bill on Wednesday, 29 January. However, opposition leaders expressed their disagreement over the report. Earlier, JPC had approved the Waqf Bill 1995 with 25 amendments in 14 sections and sections. AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that parts of his disagreement note on the JPC report had been removed. According to him, there were only ‘facts mentioned’ in them
Owaisi’s post
Owaisi said on X, “I presented a detailed disagreement note to JPC against the Waqf Bill. It is shocking that some parts of my note were removed without my knowledge. The sections removed were not controversial, only among them were not controversial. Facts were told. ” Owaisi also asked why JPC President Jagdambika Pal is pressing the voice of the opposition, while he has got the ‘report he wanted’.
Criticism of Waqf Act
The Waqf Act 1995, created to regulate Waqf properties, has been criticized for issues such as mismanagement, corruption and encroachment for a long time. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 aims to solve these challenges by implementing reforms such as digitization, advanced audit, better transparency and legal mechanisms to retrieve illegal occupied assets.
