India vs Australia

The World Test Championship i.e. WTC is the biggest tournament of Test cricket. The World Test Championship was introduced to promote Test cricket. So far, 2 versions of it have been played. New Zealand and Australia have won the title of World Championship once. Now the third final of WTC is to be played, in which Australia will face South Africa. With this final, the current format of the World Test Championship will end as it is expected that the ICC may implement the two -tier system in the WTC.

Richard Thompson, president of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to bring more adventures and competition to WTC, recently interacted with Jai Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). England have to host India in Headingley from 20 June with the next cycle that will be left with only five months and Thompson accepted the need to look at the matter immediately.

Emphasis on making WTC fair

Thompson told Telegraph Sport that it has been fully understood that the current structure does not work in the way he should do and we need to find a fair, better competition but no recommendations have been revealed at this level yet. Are. He said that he has five months to work on it, will see what the structure should be further. The World Test Championship should be fair and more competitive. There is a change to ensure that it always encourages the best teams to reach the finals and encourage the other countries to play Test cricket.

The current format of WTC has been criticized for its shortcomings. The teams do not play with all the opposing teams in the two -year cycle and at the same time there is a lot of two Test match series, which does not show continuity in the points table. India and Pakistan do not play against each other due to political obstacles. Similarly, South Africa reached the finals without playing with Australia in the current cycle. However, both these teams will face face to face in the title match at Lord’s in June.
