Jose Butler raised questions

  • At the press conference after the match, Jose Butler said that we do not agree with the Concisition Substitute. Under the convention rule, there should be equality between the two players, but it was not so. Rana is a fast bowler, while Dubey is an all -rounder.
  • Butler called India’s convention rule as ‘dummy’ in this case. He further said that “I think either Shivam Dubey has achieved a speed of 25 miles per hour in bowling, or Harshit Rana has improved his batting a lot.”

Criticism of former England cricketers

  • Former England cricketers Michael Vaughan, Alastair Cook and Kevin Peterson also questioned the decision. Peterson said that “I am not sure he is the same. Jose Butler was not happy with this decision. He was angry after being out and talked to the coach about it.”
  • Cook said that “it is absolutely madness that he was allowed to bowl, as he was not able to bat.”
