15 million smartphones sold in 2024
However, according to the estimate of Counterpoint Research, the top five smartphone brands in the iPhone manufacturer annual data set are not included in the brand. The report estimated that smartphone sales in 2024 were 15.3 million units with an annual increase in an annual basis. Senior research analyst of Counterpoint Research, Shilpi Jain, said that India’s smartphone market is indicating maturity, which has affected volume due to low entry of new users in ecosystem. Jain said, “Every year the cycle of changing the phone is increasing due to the improvement in the early and middle -class smartphones. Also, the trend towards expensive smartphones is increasing. The sales of the premium segment smartphone (priced more than Rs 30,000) have increased by a double percentage points. This has led to an annual increase of nine percent in the wholesale price – which is the highest record so far. ”
Samsung is in second place
According to the monthly report on the counterpoint’s smartphone market, Vivo also gained an edge in the country’s smartphone market in the December quarter and its share increased to 20 percent, which was 17 percent in the December 2023 quarter. During the quizry quarter, Xiaomi finished second after Vivo with 16 percent volume share, Samsung with 15 percent and Oppo is fourth with 14 percent. Samsung is second after Apple with 22 percent in the Annual Value Share List of 2024. Vivo is third with 16 percent after South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung. Oppo holds 16 percent and Xiaomi nine percent.
