On the basis of the Uniform Civil Code, the Child Development Officer has stopped the marriage of four minor girls in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The wedding of four minor girls of Ujola village of Jakholi tehsil of Rudraprayag district was stopped on Friday from quick intervention of the Child Development Department. Four girls aged 15–17 were scheduled to get married next month. Under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), who came into force in Uttarakhand a few days ago, the marriage age of girls has been fixed at 18 years.

The Child Development Department received a complaint on the child helpline regarding the marriage of minor girls. A team from the Child Development Department reached the village where the girls’ families lived and advised them to stop the marriage.

Family agreed to not marry

Akhilesh Mishra, District Program Officer of Child Development Department of Rudraprayag, said, “We got information that the minor girls of three families of Ujola village in this area are going to be married next month. Our team reached Ujola village, where counseling of families of the three families He was told about the ill effects of child marriage and legal provisions, after which the family agreed to not marry them until they were adults. “

A complaint was received a few days ago

Deepika, District Coordinator of Child Development Department, who is leading the team, said that for some time, cases of marriage of minor girls have been coming to light in Jakholi development block. Child helpline Rudraprayag received a complaint a few days ago, in which the minor girls were married by family members in Baksir, Dangi, Khod, Bhunalgaon, Udola and Mathiagaon of Ghanghhasu Bangar area of ​​Jakholi development block. On this sensitive issue, the District Administration and District Program Officer contacted the school of the respective area and took details of the girls. On this basis, our team reached Ujola village on Friday, where four minor girls aged 15-17 years are married next month. Wali was stopped.
