New Delhi:
The construction work of the first phase of Adani Group’s Dharavi Redevelopment Project may begin in a month. Maharashtra government has approved the first phase. Under this project, first of all the construction work will be started by developing a 27 acre piece of railway land.
Housing complex will be built for railway employees
The company engaged in this project, Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited (NMDPL), earlier named Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPP), will build a modern housing complex for railway employees and for Dharavi residents on this land parcel or 2 acres of land. Will constitute the first phase of rehabilitation.
Free houses to eligible residents of Dharavi
Navbharat Mega Developers was established for the 259 hectare redevelopment project. Under this project, the Maharashtra government will provide free houses to the eligible residents of Dharavi, apart from this, those residents who are not eligible will also be provided affordable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or through the hire-purchase scheme.
The state government also plans to allocate 10% of the built up area of the rehabilitation component for commercial spaces, creating a revenue-generating model. In December last year, a survey of more than 30,000 structures in Dharavi, Mumbai was completed as part of the project. This leaves 70,000 more structures yet to be mapped. Earlier, in March 2024, the project had started a data-collection survey of millions of informal tenant residents in the region.
