New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. In fact, the Supreme Court has stayed the proceedings of the lower court in the criminal defamation case filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Naveen Jha had filed a case against Rahul Gandhi in 2019 for his alleged remarks against Amit Shah.

Case was going on in Jharkhand

Let us tell you that a hearing was held today in the Supreme Court on the petition demanding cancellation of the ongoing defamation case in Jharkhand. In this matter, the Supreme Court has given relief to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Supreme Court has stayed the defamation case going on in the lower court of Ranchi. On Rahul Gandhi’s petition, the Supreme Court has issued notice to the Jharkhand government and complainant Naveen Jha.

What did Rahul Gandhi’s lawyers say?

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that if you are not an affected party, then you cannot file a case. The Supreme Court has said this in many of its decisions. Let us tell you that in 2019, Rahul Gandhi had given a statement about the then BJP President Amit Shah, due to which a defamation case was filed against him. Rahul Gandhi had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop this case.

what is the whole matter

In fact, during one of his speeches in Chaibasa before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had reportedly used the word ‘killer’ for Amit Shah. The bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta has issued a notice to the Jharkhand government and the BJP leader on Rahul Gandhi’s appeal and sought their response. Rahul Gandhi has challenged the order of Jharkhand High Court. The High Court had rejected Rahul Gandhi’s petition requesting him to cancel the proceedings against him in the lower court.
