PM Modi’s cabinet has approved the proposal of ‘One Nation One Election’. Many political parties are in favor of One Nation-One Election, while many parties are opposing it. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has also asked tough questions to the government regarding One Nation One Election. Raj Thackeray has also said that if the central government is so concerned about conducting ‘One Nation, One Election’, then it should first conduct municipal elections in Maharashtra. MNS chief Raj Thackeray said on Wednesday that if elections are being given so much importance, then first hold municipal elections. Let us tell you that elections of many municipal bodies including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are pending in Maharashtra. Thackeray has said that there are many municipal bodies which are being run under administrators for almost four years.

Regarding One Nation One Election, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said that the Union Cabinet has approved the recommendation of a high level committee to hold simultaneous elections, but it should also consider the views of the states. He also questioned what will be done in case a state government falls or the assembly is dissolved or mid-term Lok Sabha elections are held in the country.

Simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and local bodies

Moving ahead with the One Country, One Election plan, the Central government on Wednesday accepted the recommendations of a high-level committee to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha, state assemblies and local bodies. Home Minister Amit Shah has praised the Cabinet decision, saying it will be a major step towards historic electoral reform in the country. (input language)
