Festive atmosphere at home in Muzaffarpur

There is an atmosphere of happiness in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur on the success of son of the soil Kanishka Narayan. Kanishka Narayan, MP of the Labour Party, which returned to power in Britain after about a decade and a half, has roots in Muzaffarpur district. Jayant Kumar, director of Sri Krishna Law College in Muzaffarpur, said, “The atmosphere in our residence is pleasant, where many people have seen Kanishka as a child.” Jayant Kumar’s younger brother Santosh is the father of 33-year-old MP Narayan, who represents ‘Vale of Glamorgan’. Narayan entered the field of politics after giving up his career in British civil services.

Studied in Muzaffarpur till third class

Proud of his nephew’s success, uncle Jayant Kumar said, “We are from a village in Goraul block of Vaishali district. Passion for law runs in our veins. Our late father Krishna Kumar had established a law college here.” He recalled that Kanishka was born in Muzaffarpur and studied in a local school till class three.

His parents were lawyers in Britain

“After this his parents moved to Delhi. When he was 12 years old, they (he and his parents) moved to Cardiff. Both his father and mother Chetna Sinha were lawyers in Britain,” Jayant Kumar said. “We expect better relations between Britain and India, given the soft stance of the Labour Party towards immigrants living in our country and Britain,” he said. Jayant Kumar said he was excited about the prospect of meeting his nephew as a UK MP. “Britain has always been like a second home to me. I spent four years of my student life in Wales. My daughter and son-in-law live there,” Kanishka’s uncle said.
