Shimla: Heavy rains have occurred in many parts of Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala and Palampur recorded more than 200 mm of rain. Due to heavy rains, traffic was disrupted on 150 roads, including 111 in Mandi, 13 in Sirmour, nine in Shimla, eight each in Chamba and Kullu and one road in Kangra district. According to information, 334 transformers were damaged and 55 water supply schemes were affected due to heavy rains in the state.

Dharamsala receives the highest rainfall of 214.6 mm

Dharamsala in Kangra recorded the highest rainfall of 214.6 mm, followed by Palampur 212.4 mm, Joginder Nagar 169 mm, Kangra city 157.6 mm, Baijnath 142 mm, Jot 95.2 mm, Nagrota Surian 90.2 mm, Sujanpur Tira 72 mm, Dhaulkuan 70 mm, Ghamarur 68.2 mm, Nadaun 63 mm and Barthi 58.8 mm. Shimla weather office has issued a ‘yellow’ alert warning of thunderstorms at isolated places till July 12.

31 mm rain in Dalhousie

Other tourist destinations – Dalhousie received 31 mm, Manali 30 mm, Kasauli 24 mm, Narkanda 19 mm and Shimla 17.2 mm of rain. On Thursday night, the minimum temperature was recorded at 11.6 degrees Celsius in Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti. The state has received 72.1 mm of rain so far while the normal rainfall in the month of July is 35 mm which is 106 percent more than the normal.

281 percent more rain in Mandi

195 mm rainfall has been recorded in Mandi which is the highest in the state by 281 percent more than normal. Less than normal rainfall has been recorded in Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur. According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of flood in Shimla and Sirmaur due to heavy rains on Sunday. People have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams. (Input- Bhasha)
