The price of vegetarian thali has increased by an average of 10 percent in June. The rise in the prices of onion, tomato and potato became the villain behind this. According to the monthly report ‘Roti Rice Rate’ of Crisil Market Intelligence and Analysis, the fall in the price of broiler chicken has reduced the cost of non-vegetarian food. According to the news of Bhasha, it was said that the price of vegetarian thali increased by 10 percent to Rs 29.4 per plate in June, which was Rs 26.7 in June 2023. It was Rs 27.8 in May 2024.

These three vegetables increased the price

According to the report, the vegetarian thali includes roti, vegetables (onion, tomato and potato), rice, dal, curd and salad. The report attributes the total increase in the price of the vegetarian thali to a 30 percent increase in the price of tomatoes, 59 percent in potatoes and 46 percent in onions. According to the Crisil report, in the case of onions, the arrivals were low due to a sharp fall in the area of the Rabi crop, while the production of potatoes was low due to unseasonal rains in March.

Price of non-vegetarian thali in June

Arrivals of tomatoes were down 35 per cent compared to last year due to infection of summer crops due to high temperatures in key growing areas of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. “Besides, rice prices rose by 13 per cent due to reduction in acreage, resulting in lower arrivals,” the report said. Prices of pulses rose by 22 per cent due to drought in key Kharif months. The price of a non-vegetarian thali declined to Rs 58 in June from Rs 60.5 in the same period a year ago. It was priced at Rs 55.9 per thali in May.

The ingredients are the same as the vegetarian thali, but chicken is used instead of dal. According to the report, the cost of the non-vegetarian thali has come down due to a reduction of about 14 per cent in the price of broiler chicken compared to last year, increased supply and lower cost of feed.
