pakistan cricket team
The Pakistan cricket team is currently on a tour of England. After the crushing defeat in the ODI World Cup, many changes were seen in Pakistan cricket, but finally the team is playing once again under the captaincy of Babar Azam and Babar Azam will also be the captain of the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by West Indies and America. Pakistan’s 15-member team was announced on 24 May.
The team does not have any vice-captain
The Pakistan Cricket Board did not appoint any player in the Pakistan cricket team as vice-captain. After which many questions started arising. The matter reached to the extent that the PCB offered the vice-captaincy to fast bowler and former team captain Shaheen Afridi but he turned it down. However, now the PCB has responded to this issue. The Pakistan Cricket Board said on Saturday that the national selectors never offered the role of vice-captain to Shaheen Shah Afridi ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in the US and West Indies next month. Many reports claimed that Afridi was offered to become the vice-captain in the Babar Azam-led Pakistani team but he turned down the offer.
PCB source made a big disclosure
A source close to one of the national selectors of the Pakistan cricket team told PTI that the selectors were surprised by the news because when they held a two-hour online meeting on Friday, six out of seven selectors were not in favor of having a vice-captain for the Pakistan cricket team. He said that the minutes of the meeting have been recorded as per the instructions of the PCB chairman. Therefore, today’s news of Shaheen turning down the offer to become the vice-captain was a surprise for the selectors. Although it was revealed that in March a selector had asked Afridi if he would like to become the vice-captain in the future but the fast bowler had outright turned down the offer, but this was the opinion of that selector. The Pakistan Cricket Board had no role in this.
