Rajkot: So far 27 people have died due to a massive fire in the ‘TRP Game Zone’ in the city on Saturday evening. After the accident, all the officers and employees are engaged in relief and rescue work at the spot. It is being told that the death toll may increase. After the accident, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi also reached the spot. After reaching here, he took stock of the incident spot and inquired from the officials about the status of relief and rescue work going on at the spot. He also instructed the officials to speed up the rescue work.
CM announced compensation
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to each injured. The CM wrote in a post on Instagram that “The fire incident in Rajkot is painful. I express my condolences to the people who lost their lives in this incident and their families. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured.” He wrote that “The state government will give a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured. It is very important to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.” Patel said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated and the investigation of the entire incident has been handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Home Minister gave instructions to the officers
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that “A very sad incident has happened in Rajkot. Many family members have lost their loved ones in this incident and many children have also died. SIT has been instructed to start the investigation by 3 am. All the officers of the departments under which the responsibility of building the sports field has been given instructions to appear at the Collector’s office by 3 am today. All types of investigation will start today itself and action will be taken to provide justice soon.
Game zone owner and manager arrested
The police said that the owner and manager of the ‘game zone’ were detained and taken to the police station for questioning. The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. Officials said that a fire broke out in a fiber structure built for gaming activities at around 4.30 pm, after which relief and rescue operations are going on in the affected TRP game zone. They said that the structure collapsed due to the fierce fire.
4 children under the age of 12 died
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Radhika Bharai said that “27 people have been confirmed dead in the fire incident. The bodies are completely burnt and it is difficult to identify them.” ACP Vinayak Patel said that at least four children below the age of 12 are among the dead. District officials said that the death toll is expected to rise as the rescue operation is underway. According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place in the game zone located on Nana-Mawa Road when many people including children were playing. The government has handed over the investigation of the incident to a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional Director General of Police Subhash Trivedi.
