All the teams have been announced for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by West Indies and America, in which the 15-member Pakistan team was finally announced on 24 May. Experienced Pakistani player Babar Azam will be seen handling the captaincy of this team, but PCB has not given the responsibility of vice-captaincy to any player in this team for the tournament. In such a situation, now reports are coming out that PCB had offered the vice-captaincy to fast bowler and former captain of the team Shaheen Afridi, but he turned it down.

PCB had made preparations, Afridi surprised everyone with his decision

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced its team for the T20 World Cup just 4 hours before the deadline. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the PCB had made full preparations to give Shaheen Afridi the responsibility of vice-captaincy for the T20 World Cup 2024, but the fast bowler turned down the board’s offer. This has also come to the fore as a major reason behind the delay in the announcement of Pakistan’s World Cup team. The PCB selection committee had also considered the option of all-rounder Shadab Khan and experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan for the vice-captaincy, but in the end they announced their team for the T20 World Cup 2024 without a vice-captain.
