Long queue during voting in Shopian

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, record-breaking voting took place in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat of Jammu and Kashmir and the voting records of the last 35 years were broken. Around 51.35 percent voting took place here, which is 19 percent more than the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In an atmosphere of peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir, voters were seen standing in queues to cast their votes since morning.

51.35% polling till 5 pm

After record polling in Srinagar and Baramulla in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, polling records were broken in the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, with 51.35% polling recorded in Anantnag, Poonch, Kulgam, Rajouri and Shopian till 5 pm. This is the highest in the last 35 years since 1989.

People expressed faith in democracy

Along with this, in this election, 38.49% voting was recorded in Srinagar, 59.1% in Baramulla and 51.35% in Anantnag-Rajouri, which is the highest in many decades. Overall, the voting percentage in the three constituencies of the valley in this general election is 50%. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu said – ‘The people of Jammu and Kashmir have expressed their faith in democracy by voting in large numbers in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat and have proved the opponents wrong.

Long queues of voters

Voting took place with live webcasting at 2338 polling stations in Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency. Voting began at 7 am at the polling station and the enthusiasm among the voters was worth seeing. Long queues of voters were seen waiting to cast their votes. Amid tight security arrangements, security personnel and polling personnel also worked tirelessly to maintain the enthusiasm of the voters.
