Lok Sabha Elections 2024: A total of five phases of elections have been completed so far for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and the Election Commission has released the polling data for all five phases. The Commission said that no one can tamper with the number of votes. Every vote is accounted for. The Commission said that no one can change the vote figures shared with the polling agents of all candidates through Form 17C. The Commission said that the polling data was always available 24×7 with the candidates and for the citizens on the Voter Turnout App. The Commission has noticed a pattern of spoiling the electoral process and fabricating false stories.

The Supreme Court’s decision strengthened

The press note issued by the Commission said that the Commission is certainly feeling strengthened by the comments and decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court on the process of releasing voting data by the Election Commission. This places a great responsibility on the Commission to serve electoral democracy without any controversy. Therefore, the Election Commission has decided to further expand the format of releasing voting data to include the full number of voters in each parliamentary constituency. It has been made publicly available.

The entire process is accurate, there is no discrepancy

The Commission said that the process of collection and storage of votes cast is rigorous and transparent. The Commission and its officers in the states are disseminating voting data in a better manner, keeping in mind the statutory considerations. The entire process of releasing voting data from the date of commencement of polling on 19 April 2024 has been accurate, consistent and in accordance with the election laws. There has been no discrepancy of any kind in this.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court refused to give directions to the Election Commission on a petition of a non-governmental organization (NGO), in which it was requested to direct the Commission to upload the polling booth-wise voting percentage data on its website. On May 17, the Supreme Court had sought a reply from the Election Commission within a week on the NGO’s petition, in which it was requested to direct the Election Commission to upload the polling booth-wise voting percentage data on the Commission’s website within 48 hours of the completion of voting for each phase of the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, the Election Commission opposed the NGO’s request by filing an affidavit and said that this would spoil the election atmosphere and create chaos in the electoral system in the midst of general elections.
