Mumbai. The Election Commission said on Friday that elections for four seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council will be held on June 26. The counting of votes will take place on July 1, the commission said in a release. The term of the sitting members of Mumbai, Konkan and Nashik Teachers and Graduates constituencies is going to end on July 7.
The Mumbai Teachers and Mumbai Graduates constituencies are currently represented by Kapil Patil (Lok Bharati) and Vilas Potnis (Shiv Sena-UBT) respectively. The Konkan Division Graduates constituency is represented by Niranjan Davkhare of the BJP, while the Nashik Division Teachers constituency is represented by Kishor Darade.
The commission had earlier planned to hold the elections on June 10. But on the request of the teachers to hold these elections after the summer vacation, the commission changed its decision.
According to the release, the last date for filing nominations will be June 7, while the scrutiny of ballot papers will be done on June 10 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 12. Maharashtra Legislative Council is a 78-member house. (Agency)
