Mumbai: Bollywood’s veteran director Karan Johar was born on 25 May 1972 in Mumbai. Karan Johar is celebrating his 52nd birthday on 25 May. Karan Johar’s life was not like other star kids. Karan had to face taunts in his childhood for having girlish mannerisms. People used to tease him, make fun of him. People call him gay, this trolling continues till date.
Karan Johar was very fat in his childhood, but his voice was thin. Karan often used to dance to his favourite song Dafli Wale. Children in school used to tease him for his gestures. Due to constant bullying, Karan became so underconfident that he stopped talking to people. He did not even make friends.
Karan’s father Yash Johar was the only person who understood his son. Not only this, Yash was not embarrassed about Karan’s separation. Whenever Yash’s friends came to his house, they would ask his son to dance in front of everyone. Karan used to follow Jaya Prada’s dance steps while dancing to the dafli song every time and his father used to clap.
Karan started his acting career with the help of his father. He first worked in Doordarshan’s show Indradhanush. After this, he assisted director Aditya Chopra in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and also played the role of Shahrukh’s friend in the film. During the shooting, Shahrukh advised Karan that he should make films himself.
After the shooting of DDLJ, Shahrukh Khan called Yash Johar and said that I want Karan to direct the film, you tell him to start preparations soon. One day at 2 o’clock in the night, Shahrukh talked to Karan on message and asked him what kind of film he wanted to make. Shortly after this, Karan started writing the film. He signed Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in the film. This film released in 1998 won the National Award and 8 Filmfares, everyone knows the name of the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. For which Karan also got the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
